What it covers
The qualification provides the knowledge and understanding required to promote communication, equality and inclusion, child and young person development, health and safety, and safeguarding the wellbeing of children and young people.
Three pathways
The qualification is split into three areas to reflect the range of job roles it leads to:
- Early Learning and Child Care — 25 credits from the pathway
- Children’s Social Care — 13 credits from the pathway
- Learning Development and Support Services — 13 credits from the pathway
Qualification structure
Learners achieve a minimum of 65 credits. 27 credits come from the mandatory group, together with the pathway credits above; the remaining credits come from a choice of optional units.

Through a portfolio of evidence built in the workplace, internally assessed and externally quality assured by Focus Awards.
